AI training jobs that pay $50+ an hour, and how to get accepted

micro1 and Mercor are the best-paying AI training platforms in 2026, each with a median top rate of $90 an hour across their open listings. AfterQuery and Handshake AI follow at $80. Across 1,464 listings from 14 platforms that state hourly pay, the median top rate was $75, so $50+ an hour is normal for the work, not exceptional. The platforms that pay under $50 tend to be the ones that take beginners.

That trade-off is the whole game. AI labs pay for judgement they can't get elsewhere: a doctor checking a diagnosis, a lawyer marking up a contract, an engineer finding the bug in generated code. The more specific your expertise, the higher the rate and the fewer people you compete with. Generalist roles exist and still pay, but usually $15 to $50 an hour, and they fill fast.

The short version

  • Start with micro1 and Mercor if you have a degree or professional experience: both had a median top rate of $90/hr.
  • Mercor has the best floor: its 10th-percentile listing still paid $50/hr.
  • Students and grads: Handshake AI, median $80/hr, entry by project assessment.
  • Coders without an interview: DataAnnotation's coding work starts at $40 to $150+/hr.
  • Below $50: Turing ($15 median), Babel Audio ($17) and Braintrust ($30) take more beginners but pay much less.

How we judged them

The question is "where can I earn $50+ an hour", so pay leads, but a high rate on three listings is worth less than a good rate on two hundred. We weighed the median top hourly rate across open listings (35%), the volume of open work (25%), the pay floor, meaning the 10th-percentile listing (15%), how realistic entry is for someone with relevant experience (15%), and how open the platform is about pay before you start (10%).

The numbers come from aitrainingjobs.xyz, which collects every open role from 14 platforms' public feeds daily. That gives a like-for-like view, rather than each platform's own "up to" headline. One caution applies throughout: most listings state a range and we use the top of it, so your first project may start lower.

The 8 best-paying AI training platforms, ranked

1. micro1

Best overall: the most open work at a $90 median.

micro1 had 252 open listings on 28 October 2026, the most of any platform, with a median top rate of $90 an hour. The spread is the widest we saw, from about $30 to $300 an hour, because it hires across levels: legal and compliance specialists at the top, recent graduates and generalists at the bottom. 61 listings were beginner-friendly, the second-highest count.

How to get in: apply to a specific listing, then sit an interview with micro1's AI recruiter. It asks about your experience and tests skills live, so treat it like a real technical interview. Have examples ready from your actual work.

Pay
Median top $90/hr; range about $30–300/hr.
Hires most for
Generalists, law and compliance.
Weak spot
The AI interview is unforgiving if you can't talk through your own work.

2. Mercor

The highest pay floor for experts.

Mercor ties micro1 on median pay at $90 an hour, and its floor is better: its 10th-percentile listing paid $50 an hour, where micro1's paid about $30. It had 221 open listings, led by science and engineering, and the countries its listings name most were the US, Germany and Spain.

How to get in: an AI interview after you apply. Mercor is the clearest example of the expertise premium. Only 36 of its listings were beginner-friendly, so without a degree or professional record you're better off starting elsewhere.

Pay
Median top $90/hr; range about $50–170/hr.
Hires most for
Science and engineering.
Weak spot
Few roles for generalists.

3. AfterQuery

Strong pay with a surprising number of beginner-friendly roles.

AfterQuery builds research datasets from working experts. It had 226 open listings with a median top rate of $80 an hour and a range of about $30 to $135. 48 listings were beginner-friendly, and voice and audio work features heavily alongside generalist roles. That makes it the best $50+ option for people without a specialist degree.

Pay
Median top $80/hr; range about $30–135/hr.
Hires most for
Voice and audio, generalists.
Weak spot
Mostly US and UK listings when a country is named.

4. Handshake AI

Best for students, grads and PhDs.

Handshake runs AI training projects for its campus network. It had 180 open listings, a median top rate of $80 an hour and a solid floor of about $47. The countries its listings name most were Canada, India and Mexico, so it's one of the better options outside the US too.

How to get in: apply to an opportunity that matches your field of study, then pass that project's assessment. Acceptance is per project, so applying to the listings closest to your degree works better than applying to everything.

Pay
Median top $80/hr; range about $47–125/hr.
Hires most for
Science and engineering, generalists.
Weak spot
Built around students and graduates.

5. DataAnnotation

The $50+ route for coders who'd rather not interview.

DataAnnotation isn't in the listing feed we use, so these figures are its own. Its FAQ says coding projects start at $40 to $150+ an hour, STEM projects need a master's or PhD (or a bachelor's plus 10 years' experience), and general projects start at $25 to $50. Its homepage advertises expert rates "up to $75–$125+/hr" and listed 112 roles on 29 October. Software engineering roles were marked "Up to $150+ / hr".

How to get in: a written assessment, then a coding or specialist qualification for the higher tiers. There is no live interview, which suits people who test better than they talk.

Pay
Coding $40–150+/hr; general $25–50/hr (its FAQ).
Payment
PayPal, no fees.
Weak spot
No feedback if you fail the assessment.

6. Alignerr

$40+ an hour for roles that don't need a technical background.

Alignerr, run by Labelbox, advertises "$80/hr average pay", a figure we couldn't check independently. Its role pages are more useful: an AI Data Quality Analyst role at $40 to $120 an hour with "no technical experience required", and an AI chatbot tester role at the same range. Its English writing generalist role pays $30 to $40.

Pay
$30–120/hr by role (its job pages).
Owner
Labelbox.
Weak spot
The headline average is self-reported.

7. Mindrift

Small, honest about pay, good for medicine and science.

Toloka's Mindrift had only 19 open listings, but every one stated an hourly rate, with a median top of $70 and a range of $39 to $70. Medicine and health lead. It's a good second platform for clinicians and scientists already working on Mercor.

Pay
Median top $70/hr.
Owner
Toloka.
Weak spot
Little volume.

8. Sovrano AI

The highest median of all, if you're a European expert.

Sovrano AI is a Barcelona evaluation company that has experts grade AI in regulated work. Its 24 open listings had the highest median top rate we saw, $125 an hour, with a floor near $49. The listings name Ireland, the US and the UK most, and it hires mainly in science, engineering, finance and business. Low volume keeps it at eighth.

Pay
Median top $125/hr; range about $49–125/hr.
Focus
Europe; regulated professions.
Weak spot
Only 24 open listings.

+ aitrainingjobs.xyz: filter every role by pay and field

Find the $50+ roles in your field without checking 14 sites.

aitrainingjobs.xyz is where the numbers in this list come from: every open AI training role from 14 platforms, refreshed daily, with pay as stated and the countries that can apply. You can filter by field and country, set a free job alert, or use its earnings calculator to estimate a month's pay from live rates. It never lists a platform that charges applicants.

Platforms that usually pay under $50 an hour

These are legitimate and often easier to get into, which is exactly why they pay less. Median top rates on 28 October 2026: Turing $15 (103 listings, mostly coding and finance roles naming India, Pakistan and Bangladesh), Babel Audio $17 (voice and transcription by language), Braintrust $30 (100 listings, 64 beginner-friendly), Anyone AI $40 (Latin America and Europe) and SME Careers $50 (247 listings, strong on languages). If you're starting with no degree, Braintrust, micro1 and Turing had the most beginner-friendly roles.

How to get accepted at a $50+ platform

  1. Lead with one field, not everything. Pay follows specialism. Apply where your degree or job title matches the listing; a nurse applying to a medical review role beats a generalist applying to ten.
  2. Prepare for an AI interview. micro1 and Mercor screen with automated interviews that ask about your experience and test you live. Practise explaining one piece of your own work clearly in two minutes.
  3. Treat the assessment as the job. Handshake AI, DataAnnotation, Alignerr and Mindrift all test you on the actual task. Read the guidelines fully; most rejections are for ignoring instructions, not lack of skill.
  4. Apply to two or three platforms at once. Work comes in projects and gaps are normal. Two platforms smooth out the quiet weeks.
  5. Check who can apply. Only 771 of 1,729 listings named countries or said worldwide. "Remote" alone does not mean anywhere.
  6. Never pay to apply. No legitimate AI training platform charges a fee, sells a starter kit or asks for a deposit.

Which platform should you try first?

  • You're a professional with a degree: Mercor, then micro1.
  • You're a software engineer: DataAnnotation's coding track, plus micro1.

  • You have no degree: AfterQuery and Alignerr for $40+ roles; Braintrust for the most beginner listings.
  • You're in Europe with expert credentials: Sovrano AI.

Questions

Which AI training jobs pay $50 an hour or more?

On 28 October 2026, micro1 and Mercor had a median top rate of $90 an hour across their open listings, AfterQuery and Handshake AI $80, and Sovrano AI $125 on a small number of European roles. Across 1,464 listings that stated pay, the median top rate was $75 an hour.

How much do AI training jobs pay per hour?

Most listings state a range. Across 14 platforms on 28 October 2026, the median top of that range was $75 an hour, with the 10th percentile at $25 and the 90th at $145. Generalist roles usually pay $15 to $50; law, medicine, science and coding roles commonly pay $80 to $150.

Can I get AI training jobs with no experience?

Yes, but expect less than $50 an hour at first. 372 of 1,729 listings on 28 October 2026 were marked beginner-friendly, most on Braintrust, micro1 and Turing. AfterQuery and Alignerr also advertise $40+ roles that don't need a technical background.

How do I pass the micro1 or Mercor AI interview?

Both use an automated interview that asks about your experience and tests skills live. Apply only to roles that match your field, prepare a clear two-minute explanation of real work you've done, and answer specifically. Being vague about your own experience is the most common reason people fail.

Do AI training platforms charge a fee to join?

No legitimate one does. None of the 14 platforms tracked by aitrainingjobs.xyz charges applicants, and DataAnnotation, Outlier and Alignerr state they pay workers, not the other way round. Any job that asks for a deposit or crypto before you can withdraw is a scam.
